Twenty X Elite Roper Pad
Western Saddle Fittings/Pads

Manufacturer: Professional's Choice Sports Medicine Products
Model: Twenty X Elite Roper Pad
Category: Western Saddle Fittings/Pads

Purchase: I got it off the internet for 150 or so dollars, because I had heard a couple people say they had had good luck with them.

Likes: It is a nice looking pad, with the tan on tan color scheme.

Dislikes: Professional's Choice Sports Medicine Products Wrangler 20 X saddle pad review. For what it is worth, I would like to make a few comments on the 20x Wrangler Elite Roper Saddle pad. First, I would like to lay a little foundation: I am a Montana native that has been a horseback since before I was in Kindergarten. My experience on horses includes, but is not limited to: taking extended pack trips into Wilderness Areas, Team Roping, and pushing cows all over the dang place. I have ridden horse in all weather, over all types of terrain, during all times of the night and day and until a couple of days ago I was able to say that I had never sored a horse up! (Once, I had a pack horse get a small cinch rub spot, but that is it. I am careful!) I would like to lay out the scenario, I have a new gelding that is green with a capital G, some neighbors to the north of us called and asked if we, my wife and I, wanted to get in on a trip moving some cows for a couple of days. I had been working with the gelding for a couple of days, so I thought, “What the Hell” it would be a great trip for him. I have a Double J trophy saddle that I have been riding and like… I bought a 20X roper elite saddle pad this spring, after hearing other people say that they liked them, so I figured I would try one out. Well, here is the conclusion that I have come to, THEY SUCK! Save your money, don’t buy one! I rode the gelding with the Double J saddle and the 20x pad about 20 miles the first day, and 20 or so miles the second day. At the end of the second day, I notice that the gelding’s back was very tender, I got to looking and on his right side, just below the withers was a no BS wear spot, with a lot of hair missing. I about came unwound! First I was pissed, because I had sored up a horse, second because the gelding had been a trooper all day and not acted up, even though it must have been hurting him. It just so happened that a local saddle maker, who is actually very well known and has been making custom saddles for several DECADES, was also on the trip. He looked at my Double J saddle and did not find any problem with it, except that it was not one of his custom jobs. He said the tree was not twisted and there did not appear to be any reason of the pressure point that caused the sore spot on the horses back. In closing, I would like to state that the gelding is doing fine, although he is going to have a large white spot below his withers. I actually helped some different neighbors move cow approximately 22 miles to a mountain pasture yesterday. I rode the gelding with my old no name wool pad, with a Navajo pad on top of it and the Double J saddle. No problems at all. My guess is that the Roper Elite Pad is designed for Rodeo athletes that never actually use a horse for more than a couple of hours at a time, and would never dream of going up or down mountains with a horse. For those of us that actually still get out of the arena and get work done with a horse, by spending 12 plus hours a day in the saddle, DO NOT BUY A WRANGLER 20X ELITE ROPER SADDLE PAD, or you will have a sore horse just like me.

Quality: Not that great if it sores a horse!

Summary: Save your money! Oh, by the way I have pictures and witnesses if there are any questions!
