Purchase: I purchased the reins based on the recommendation of my trainer. I was hesitant at first because of weight of the reins, but he assured me I would like the response from my horse. I purchased the reins from the John Lyons website for $42.99.
Likes: My trainer was right! The response from my horse was amazing. Because of the weight of the reins, she can feel me when I start to pick up and respond before I even ask. As a result, I stay out of her mouth which makes her happy and much softer. They are longer than my previous reins which also keeps me out of her mouth. They are well-made and should last the rest of my riding days.
Dislikes: The ONLY drawback is that they are more difficult to attach and remove from the bit. This is not a big problem for me since I rarely change bits.
Quality: The 10 ft. round rein is nylon with leather slobber straps to attach to the bit. The reins are substantial and the slobber straps are made of quality leather with a buckle and screw to secure the bit. There is no metal to metal contact so it is very horse-friendly.
Summary: The John Lyons Signature Reins are the finest reins I have used and well worth the money. My horse is softer and happier!
