Purchase: My saddle was made to template for a very wide and short backed Crabbet Arabian. It was made and purchased when I still lived in England and in 1999 cost approximately 950 pounds sterling. It was ordered through a local tack shop and the owner came out to measure my horse. My Arabian at that time was difficult to saddle up vet tests showed no problems with his back but previous saddles had not fitted him well.
Likes: It is comfortable for both horse and rider. I have spent many hours riding in it. There are plenty of D-rings for trail or endurance. I feel very secure going up and down steep creek beds. It is easy to clean.
Dislikes: I can't think of anything to dislike.
Quality: The saddle has very soft, good quality leather and it needed no breaking in. The panels are stuffed with French wool and are wide to distribute the riders weight. The gullet is wide too giving good clearance of the spine. I had dressage girth straps fitted and use a dressage girth with D-ring added. It gives closer contact with the horse. There are also plenty of D-rings on the saddle for trail or endurance riding. The leather is specially treated so that it is easy to clean and most times just needs a wipe with a clean damp cloth.
Summary: I bought this saddle 6 years ago for one particular horse. When I sold him the new owner did not want to buy the saddle. Later on she did have to get one!! It has also fitted well on a Clydesdale/TB mare my daughter owned; a Welsh section D mare; another much taller Arabian and at present my Peruvian Paso fits just perfectly in it and it has improved his gait. It is a very comfortable saddle for most horses that need plenty of shoulder room. It still looks like new apart from a bit of rubbing on the flaps where the stirrup leathers are. I would buy one again but this will probably last longer than me!
