Purchase: I bought this late last year for my mare because her saddle was too wide due to her under muscling. I paid around $30 from Dover Saddlery.
Likes: I like the material of this pad. It's a nice foam, yet doesn't compress with weight. And after you use it, it stays relatively in the shape of your horse so it's easy to put in the right spot next time. It worked to keep that saddle off of my horse's withers and is still working today to keep a new saddle off of her withers while her shoulder muscles keep filling out.
Dislikes: The pad is very hard to keep clean. Hair and dirt sticks to it like glue. But a little vigorous wiping to remove the hair and some white vinegar to remove the dirt and it cleans up nicely. The risen part on the wither area of this pad sort of seems to blend in... sharply to the rest of the pad. You can tell that there was some effort to blend it in, but it's not perfectly smooth as if the pad was all one molded piece.
Quality: This pad has been used a lot. It has held up so far to two different saddles, horse bites, dirt, hair, and all of the stresses of riding. I like the quality overall except for the way the riser foam pieces don't blend in too well with the rest of the pad.
Summary: I liked this pad. It doesn't trap heat and it does it's job well. I actually prefer this to sheepskin pads. It's not so high-maintenance andI think it holds up better.
Before I bought this, I was biased about a product that comes from a synthetic company. But this pad has turned my opinions around, and after some research, I am considering saving up some money to purchase a Wintec saddle.
