Purchase: I heard about a professional saddle fitter in my area, and had her come and use the Port Lewis analysis pad on my horse, and then bought a custom built pad according to the results. In Canadian dollars, the pad was about $350.00
Likes: I LOVE THIS PAD!!! SO DOES MY HORSE!!! The Port Lewis system measures the effect of the saddle on the horse's back. Then a pad made from highly shock absorbing foam sections is constructed. Two pad panels slip into an envelope made from very tough Cordura nylon, with quilted cotton on the underside in contact with the horse's back. No other under pad is needed! The envelope in washable (many many many many times!) It gives a great air channel down the spine of the horse, plus it doesn't rub off hair anywhere.
This pad can help fit hard-to-fit horses and make saddles more comfortable for them.
Dislikes: Maybe the colors could be a little more zippy. That's not much of a complaint, eh?
Quality: Excellent. The Cordura nylon is tough, the quilted cotton underside of the envelope is comfortable for the horse. The foam is state-of-the-art, and will not bottom out.
Summary: I am so sick and tired of buying pad after pad to make my horse comfortable...I paid a hefty price, but it's for a unit that can be altered if my horse's conformation and muscle structure changes (which happens!). I am very happy! so's my horse!
