Purchase: I bought the Abetta Trail saddle with 4" trail stirrups (the kind with the cushion for shock-absorption)about a month ago from www.buytack.com and paid about $320. I'm getting into competitive trail riding and needed a light-weight saddle.
Likes: My horse is very hard to fit (he has unusually high withers for a quarter horse but also needs saddle bars with a wide angle), and this saddle seems to do the job. It's light and wears well. I especially like that the breast collar dees are near the saddle horn, not the girth dees, so it breast collar is kept off my horse's shoulders and doesn't get in his way.
Dislikes: The saddle isn't as comfortable for me as some others, but it IS more comfortable for my horse, which I care about more since he's the one carrying me around, and I can always get a seat cushion. However, a word of CAUTION: the trail stirrups that come with this saddle are UNSAFE. I've had this saddle only a couple of weeks, and this morning I heard a loud CRACK! as I mounted. On investigation I found the bottom of my left stirrup had broken cleanly in two! The only thing holding it together--and keeping me from a potential wreck--was the cushion, which itself had torn nearly completely through. When I checked my other stirrup I found the beginning of a crack in exactly the same place--dead center across the narrow part.
Quality: Excluding the stirrups, this saddle seems reasonably well-made. For safety reasons, though, I recommend spending a few more dollars for aluminum stirrups.
Summary: Good saddle, unsafe stirrups.
Usefulness Rating: 1.90909 out of 5.
