Purchase: I've had two sets of this type of stirrups, one plain set from a local tack shop, and one from Dixleland Gaited Saddles. Paid $45 for the leather covered ones from Dixieland.
Likes: Deep stirrup that is very comfortable to the foot.
Dislikes: They are horribly dangerous. If a horse falls or even just lies down to roll, the stirrups will crush and if your foot is in them, it would be trapped. These things should not be on the market, period.
Quality: Metal walls with a thick foot rest insert that has some give to it. My first set was plain, the second had leather covering the sides that wasn't cut very evenly and didn't look too good. The metal on both was covered with black paint that would scratch and look terrible, but the safety factor is the worst thing. The stirrups crush easily and could entrap the rider's foot.
Summary: I never would have bought the second set of stirrups if Dixieland Gaited Saddles had disclosed what the material under the leather was made of. I'd had a set of plain stirrups like this and seen what could happen when a horse fell and crushed one flat. With the second set, a horse laid down starting to slowly roll and bent the stirrup all out of shape without even rolling far. VERY DANGEROUS product and the owner at Dixieland knows it but said they aren't responsible for people's safety!
