Pessoa
Gen X with Changeable Gullet System
Close Contact Saddles

Manufacturer: Pessoa
Model: Gen X with Changeable Gullet System
Category: Close Contact Saddles

Purchase: I acquired this on ebay and paid $900. for it. It was brand new never used when I bought it and since I am still learning on several horses I wanted my own saddle that was more comfortable than the old schooling saddles and wanted an exchangeable gullet saddle so I can change it out if I need to ride another horse. This has kneepads and triangle blocks under flap

Likes: This is the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat in. It is butter soft and looks absolutely beautiful! It's oakbark colored and I love it, it's what is "in" with the hunters scene as far as saddle colors so I don't feel outdated. This saddle saved me on one wild ride with a runaway warmblood who bolted on me and would not halt for anything. I stuck right in this saddle the whole ride and never felt like I was going to slip off and I stayed centered the whole time. I'm a newer rider so I know it wasn't from my experience. I feel like the saddle is part of me when I sit on it and it fits most of the horses I ride. Even new, it never squeaked as much as other new saddles I have ridden on. A tip: for the best combo I have added 1" wide Toulouse leathers and they lay flatter than other leathers and look great on this saddle I got Cognac colored and oiled them lightly to darken just a little to match. My trainer is raving about the combo it is a show stealer combo.

Dislikes: The combo kneepads and triangle block underneath get in the way on one of the TB's I ride because of his barrel conformation which pushes my legs back because of the kneepad and blocks but I am learning to push my legs forward on him. On all the other horses my leg is always in perfect position no matter what I do but on this particular horse it's a problem.

Quality: I have used this saddle for 8 months, 2-3 days a week for 2 hours each day and so far it's still flawless and looks brand new. It broke in after about 5 rides. I haven't tried to change out the gullet size yet but heard from my trainer it really takes two people as her daughter has same saddle but that she likes it because it allows students to use their saddle on several different horses. In addition, this saddle has very wide panels compared to most saddles and puts a more even distribution of your weight on horses back and also fit that warmblood wide back great because of wide panels that equal the Hermes saddle panels and the gullet space down the spine on this pessoa is a equal to the hermes. The gullet space is a little bit wider than most new saddles which I like, too. I noticed on other makes the gullet space narrows on rear of saddle which didn't make sense to me but this pessoa is well spaced and sweatmarks are even and in good position on all my horses.

Summary: I love this saddle and recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful and extremely comfortable saddle. This saddle has wide panels for better weight distribution on the horses back and an evenly spaced gullet along spine of horse it doesn't narrow anywhere like on some saddles. Butter soft leather and comfortable knee pads and triangle block keep your leg in perfect position and knee pads are very comfortable and soft leather. Love love love it!
