Purchase: I purchased this saddle through The Horse Saddle Shop for $1,599.00. I spent a lot of time investigating a Tucker saddle, a Big Horn and the Circle Ys. I was looking for a comfortable padded seat for me and a good fit for my horses--one is a peruvian paso, the other is a quarter horse/percheron mix. I wasn't sure about the flex tree, but was willing to give it a try. I imagined it would be the different in human terms...like wearing a flip/flop compared to a wooden shoe.
Likes: I love this saddle, it actually feels better on my quarterhorse than my gaited horse! I have had problems with sore knees for the past two years and with the new technology stirrups...no sore knees!!! The final decision on choosing the Circle Y came down to 22lbs compared to the Big Horn at 30lbs. The Tucker wasn't nearly as comfortable in the seat padding.
Dislikes: The stirrup leathers weren't quite turned enough for me on the first ride, so I put a broom handle in the two stirrups for a couple of days and now they are great. There isn't really anything I don't like about this saddle.
Quality: Well made, nice looking. I received the saddle directly from the manufacturer and when I unboxed it I checked it thoroughly. There were some seams where the seat meets and is stitched to the base of the saddle that could have been more perfectly glued down, but I am a very picky art teacher in my other life.
Summary: Coupled with my Weaver SmartCinch, its a dream setup. I am delighted to have a saddle with "substance" that isn't too heavy for either me or my horses.
