Purchase: We all worry about our horses drinking enough during stressful periods--for me, it's trailering. I read about this product on a competitive trail riding listserve. When it showed up on sale, I thought I'd give it a try.
I bought the rootbeer flavor and mixed it according to directions. My horse drank the entire bucket dry! He loves the stuff, and will forgo apples and carrots to drink his rootbeer. I use it at competitive trail rides, before trailering, and on particularly hot days. My horse regards it as a treat. After he drinks the water, he laps the dregs to get the oats and good bits at the bottom.
I buy it in the buckets, not in the individual packets. Shop for price--I've seen it between $18 and $25.
Likes: It's easy to mix; I don't wait the time specified on the container. My horse sticks his nose in and drinks as soon as the stuff hits the water. It's conveniently sized--the bucket is easy to pack for trailering.
Dislikes: The scoop is fragile and breaks easily, and the two containers I've had have lost their handles quickly. Minor inconveniences.
Remember, this product does not contain electrolytes and should not be substituted for electrolytes.
Quality: Horse Quencher is a coarse mixture of meal and oats. It dissolves easily, and the oats sink to the bottom of the bucket, providing a reward for the horse that empties the bucket.
Summary: Excellent product--I won't travel without it!
