Purchase: I was looking for a new saddle at a horse show to replace my old one which I had outgrown. Beval had a booth set up, so I went to get a fitting, which was necessary for my really long legs. I ended up picking a 6-year-old used 16.5" with a long/forward flap and paid $2200.
Likes: Butet is definitely a top brand, the Cadillac of saddles. The leather is awesome, the fit for horse and rider is unbeatable, and the ride is comfortable. The rep's are knowledgeable and can help you pick the customization that fits you best. This saddle can last you for years and years and hold up beautifully, and the even though it's pricey (upwards of $4300, new), it still gets a nice resale value! In fact, I'm selling this saddle again, right now, for $900, and it's 16 years old, now.
Dislikes: It gives you a feeling of water-skiing because the flap juts your leg out a bit too much. Mine and other older models I have seen can get rips in the seam of the flap or panels, but those are easily fixed. Another minor problem is the saddle is a bit heavy. The saddles are also a bit hard to find, used, because they last so long that people will hold onto them for years.
Quality: Top notch, it doesn't get much better. You get what you pay for, clearly.
Summary: I'd recommend this saddle, for sure, especially if your horse has a narrow barrel which might cause your leg to creep back. With all the customization options, you really can't go wrong.
