Purchase: A well fitted breastplate is a must for any endurance rider or trail rider who likes to ride in the hills. This particular unit cost me about $100 and is fully customizable and looks great too! Running Bear makes excellent quality products for the serious trail rider and after having purchased gear from them before, I did not hesitate to go straight to them when I needed a breastplate to match the tack that I already had. I needed something that could fit several different sized horses, and was impressed with the overall fit and design that their breast plate had to offer.
Likes: I purchased this breastplate along with the matching bridle, crupper and martingale that Running Bear has to offer. The workmanship is excellent and the color choices are wonderful. I chose the deluxe padded unit for my thin-skinned horse, and have been pleased with the way it fits without restriction across the shoulders and chest. There is no chaffing and once fitted to the horse, can be clipped on and off at the piece that lays over the neck so no more adjustment is necessary. This entire unit is washable in the top rack of the dishwasher just like the other biothane tack that Running Bear offers, and you can't beat the price for something so easy to care for. The color choices are outstanding and you can get an overlay on breastplate as well to match your halter/bridle combo!
Dislikes: This is an excellent breastplate. No dislikes.
Quality: I have purchased many products from Running Bear in the past, and have always been pleased. I have owned and used their biothane products on a daily basis for YEARS and have not had any problems with durability, workmanship, strength or quality. The product seems indestructible, even after all of this time. The seams are smooth, the breastplate itself is lightweight and the fittings are brass. It is adjustable in several places so that you can get the perfect fit for any horse, any time.
Summary: This particular breastplate is an excellent choice for the trail rider. It offers freedom of movement in the shoulder, pectorals and provides a comfortable and even fit for the horse while trekking uphill. It is lightweight and form fitting and requires no maintenance. No seams touch the horse, and there are no bulky parts or heavy straps to deal with. This breastplate will not only outperform, but outlast any other breastplate out there today.
