Purchase: Directly from the manufacturer in the U.S; paid over $3300.00 Cdn. all in ($ exchange was high then). I was having trouble finding something to fit my horse comfortably; a friend rode in an Ansur and suggested I check them out

Likes: You will immediately notice the feel of your horse's back working under you. My hard to fit Arab gelding absolutely hated his dressage sessions before I got this saddle; now he moves freely, works normally and happily and is getting over his grouchiness about being tacked up. You definitely have to be able to ride to use this saddle to your benefit; not for insecure or green riders. Although it's a little tougher to ride in because it won't 'babysit' you, I use it because having a happy, comfortable horse is first on my checklist of priorities, and once you spend some time in the saddle it feels like home. Now if I ride in a treed English saddle I feel perched too high above the horse. I haven't found that it slips any more than any other saddle, but I generally use a mounting block. My new instructor tried it out (on my horse) and was fascinated by actually being able to feel the horse's back as he worked.

Dislikes: I thought it was overpriced, but I suppose a happily working horse is priceless and that's what the manufacturers are counting on....and the fact that it will fit any of my horses and last a lifetime is quite a bit of comfort. I find that the stirrup leathers wear quickly on the other side of the metal clip for adjusting length, but they're readily replaceable. Overall there's not much I don't like.

Quality: Simple construction, but is wearing well. Reasonable quality.

Summary: This saddle can make the difference for you if you are willing to try something different. It did for us; my horse is a much nicer guy - no longer cranky due to saddle pain and that opens up a whole happy future for us.
