Purchase: I bought this helmet at Adam's Horse Supply for about $70. My old velveteen show helmet was much too large and was turning brown, plus I really needed something a little cooler for summer rides. Before I bought my helmet I came here and saw a lot of bad reviews about Troxel products. That made me a little leery of buying a Troxel helmet, but I got one anyway.
Likes: The adjust-ability of this helmet is invaluable for someone who has a hard-to-fit head like me. The Flipfold system creates the perfect fit for anyone. I also enjoy the fairly low-profile design. My helmet fits great and is very comfortable (I was in a fall the first time I tried it on). It's nicely ventilated, and really lightweight. The ponytail port is nice for keeping your hair out of the way, too. For the fashion-conscious rider, the available color choices are quite lovely... I bought a blue model.
Dislikes: Although I really enjoy the GPA III system, it can dig/pinch if not put on right. The harness is also a bit to work with at first, and I find that it often gets wrapped around the GPA "thing". The strap on the buckle part of the harness is also WAY too long, and I'll have to trim it down to keep it from flopping everywhere. Although I like the Flipfold system, it compromises the security of the helmet liner, which never seemed to stick to the velcro dots in the first place. Furthermore, the Duratec finish is already wearing away.
Quality: The GPA system will probably not last as long I would like it to; the pads on it already are coming unglued just from a few uses. The Duratec finish scuffs easily and leaves shiny spots all over the helmet. However, I have fallen several times, and my helmet is still holding up.
Summary: This is a nice, economical helmet for beginners, trail riders, schooling, and leisure riding. Despite the fact that Troxel isn't my first choice in helmets, this model is pretty good.
