Purchase: This is a warning message for people shopping on eBay. There is a seller who is listing "Authentic Porter saddles" from the Porter saddle shop in Phoenix, Arizona. If you look closely at these listings, the nameplate on the saddle shows the name spelled as PORTOR, not PORTER. They are counterfeit ripoffs of a very well respected maker who operated in Phoenix for many years. They are also an infringement of another gentleman by that name who made tack in the southwest valley for many years. I have contacted this seller and she (who calls herself Mr.) is well aware of this deceptive practice and chooses to continue ripping people off. The logo with the misspelled name is even a copy of the original N. Porter logo with a steerhead, so it is not coincidence. These are no more real Porter saddles than the so called Gucci purses you buy for $10 from a a street vendor. But a bad purse doesn't risk your safety or cause damage to your horse like a fake saddle. Don't buy this scammer's junk!

Summary: Don't get taken in by scammers, it pays to read every word, and if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I was lucky enough to catch this ripoff artist before buying. As of today, Aug. 20, 2009, she had 18 saddles listed. Real Porter saddles are valuable collectors pieces, Portor saddles are most likely junk. Caveat emptor!
