Jumping Saddles

Manufacturer: Dover Circuit
Model: Circuit Pro Jumping
Category: Jumping Saddles

Purchase: I had been looking for a new saddle for a while, and had come across the test-ride program from dover. So I thought well if I dont like it I can always send it back no worries. I paid $1,000 for it and it also came with a free bridle.

Likes: For a saddle priced under 1,000 it is very well constructed, much better, Ive noticed, then the HDR's and the M. Toulouse. The seat is comfortable and has the sticky buffalo leather which is nice, and the deep seat gives you just enough security over the larger fences.

Dislikes: I have noticed that although my specific saddle is a 16.5 to use a shaped pad with it it needs to be at least a half size bigger then the actual seat. I have ridden wider back horse for a little while, and while the saddle gave no soreness to the horse, who seemed to be comfortable in it, I have noticed that the tree has either stretched or was bigger then I expected.

Quality: Overall the construction for a saddle of the price is very good. The leather is like cardboard coming out of the box, but with a few oilings broke in enough. The leather, I have also noticed, scratches at the tiniest pressure, which has proved to be very annoying. The stitching is beautiful on the cantle, which is a plus. The leather on the flaps, not matter how tight your leg is, will get rubbed a totally different color then the saddle itself.

Summary: Overall the saddle is OK. Now that Ive had it for about 2 years, Im ready to move on. For someone who cant pay more then a thousand, this is the saddle I would choose for them. But for someone with a bigger budget, I would say to pass on it and spend a little more for a L'Apogee or Bates.
