Purchase: I actually got these boots second hand from a friend for $20 -- she'd decided red boots didn't look good on her new horse, and I just happened to be desperately searching for cheap boots to use on my new barrel racing mare. She paid $34.99 (+S&H) for them at Chicksaddlery.com.
Likes: I like how easy they are to put on and take off -- there's just two velcro pieces that go around the leg and fetlock. It's all fabric, so when I need to clean them up, I just run a body brush over them and toss them in the wash machine. They look really nice, and I've had people mistake them for the Professional's Choice boots. They're pretty versatile for sizing, too -- I use them on my 14hh Arab-cross mare, all the way to my 16hh QH/Paint gelding. I've had them about a year, and my friend had them for two years prior, and so far, there aren't any defects in either boots. I haven't had any problems with them slipping or twisting around, and they get very little dirt underneath them. Magic -- who wears them most of the time -- has never gotten very sweaty underneath them, even after wearing them for nearly a full day at a speed show!
Dislikes: Although most of my horses fit in the range of sizes these boots do fit, my two 12 and 13hh ponies are simply too small, and I don't think a horse bigger than my 16hh gelding would fit in them very well either -- and unfortunately, they only make the one "one size fits all" size! Beyond that, I really have no complaints.
Quality: A fabric exterior and a foam-like interior... not really sure exactly what the materials are. The stitching is sturdy and has held up to all sorts of abuse -- even my younger ponies deciding they were 'plaything of the day.' The velcro, after about three years of use, still holds strong.
Summary: I'd definitely recommend these boots to anyone -- I even like them better than the brand name Professional's Choice SMBs! I'm already looking to buy another pair and maybe even the no-turn bell boots from the same company.
