Purchase: I bought these half chaps from Dover Saddlery about a year and a half ago... I paid about $50 for them, the price is about the same still.
Likes: The chaps feature a very customizable fit, seeing as there are velcro straps running horizontally across the seam, so you can make different parts of the chaps tighter/looser to fit your legs. They came in your basic colors, taupe, black, brown, and they also came in hunter green and navy. They came in a variety of sizes ranging from children's medium to adult extra large. The stiching has remained strong and hasn't given out yet.
Dislikes: The suede quickly wore down on the insides of my calves, probably after only six or seven months of once a week wear. The suede is now smooth leather on the inside edges. The suede also soon collected dust that wouldn't come off even with a suede brush- they now look rather shabby and worn- not at all impressive looking.
Quality: The stiching is nice and strong, and the seams are all doubled over much like a pair of jeans... There are four velcro straps spaced about two inches apart (just a guess) along the outside edge of the chaps for a customized fit, as well as another strap just below the knee for exceptional fit there as well. An elastic strap runs beneath the bottom of the boot, which has also remained strong. The suede, however, has been wearing down more and more.
Summary: Good economical chaps for beginner riders, nothing fancy, even a little sloppy. However, the workmanship is excellent as they are still in wonderful shape other than the worn down suede, which in no way affects the performance. Not pretty, but very functional. I would never suggest these for a competetive rider- at least not for competitions or shows!
