Purchase: I bought 4 of these for $5 each at a tack store that had gotten in a shipment of hamilton products from an Amish guy and were trying to unload them. The Hamilton haters seem to work fine for what I need, and I LOVE the versatility lead ropes, so I bought 4 halters, 4 matching leads, and then a bunch of the regular Hamilton halters and leads.
Likes: I'm not a fan of the adjustable noseband; I think it just gets in the way, and this does not have one. It also has buckles at either side of the head so that you can adjust the halter up on both sides. I am not sure what the advantage is of this, but it's a nice option that is out of the way.
Dislikes: The color selection is limited to browns and golds. There is a plastic logo on the cheek, which is fine for a $5 halter buit otherwise I'm not big in to. Also, I bought a bunch of horse-sized halters and they're very big, even with the double adjustments. They hang down very low on my avarege sized horses, whereas the other Hamiltons fit just fine. They do seem to fit fine on my 17-handers.
Quality: General Hamilton construction that we all know. The buckles seem to be made slightly different and are much nicer. The color doesn't rub off.
Summary: These halters are fine, but they run big. They did not live up to my expectations in comparison with the lead ropes of the same name. Bottom Line: I wouldn't pay more than I would for a regular Hamilton for one of these, although I would pay more for the Versatility lead rope than I would a regular Hamilton lead rope. They're fine as a halter, but not really fancy or anything new or unique.
