Purchase: I highly recommend the Trilogy Verago model dressage saddle. I am a 51 year old mother of three and only took up riding two years ago. Accordingly, safety and comfort were high priorities on my list of saddle qualities. I rode in my trainer's Trilogy, the Amadeo model, which he correctly promised would help me maintain the correct leg position. It keeps you exactly where you should be, yet allows the close contact you need in dressage. I immediately began a daily, but ultimately unsuccessful, internet search for a used Trilogy. Every time I found my size (17.5 wide), some other lucky rider had swooped in before me, undaunted by the typical $3000 cost of a used Trilogy. Based on the fabulous fit and feel, coupled with its ease of resale, I decided to spend $3800 for a new Trilogy. During the process of fitting both me and my 15hh Morgan, the Trilogy representative recommended I try all the models because a woman's pelvis can sometimes sit differently. After trying three different model types, the Trilogy Verago was the best choice for my bone structure. I also had the flaps made slightly shorter because each new Trilogy is custom fit to the rider and horse. Six weeks later, when the saddle arrived from England, the representative custom flocked it exactly to my horse's back and then returned three months later to adjust the fit after the saddle settled in to the shape of my horse. As a result, my Trilogy saddle allows me to maintain the proper position and contact with my horse -- so imperative in dressage -- due to its exacting fit, stunningly beautiful craftsmanship and design. The saddle was well worth the $3,800 price. My riding has vastly improved and I have the comfort of knowing that I could easily resell this wonderful saddle for more than 75% of its original price if I ever change horses or riding disciplines.
Likes: The deep seat and overall design keep you exactly in the proper position. The leather is beautiful and the craftsmanship expert.
Dislikes: Nothing. The price is definitely on the high end of saddles, however, the saddle can be resold easily.
Quality: The leather is of the finest quality. The saddle is custom made in England based on the exact measurements of the client, and then the representative finishes off the fitting specific to the horse by inserting the natural flocking and carefully adjusting the fit specifically to the horse's back (with a follow up fitting three months later).
Summary: Admittedly a shockingly expensive saddle, but well worth every bit of the $3,800 sticker price. I have the security of knowing I am firmly, comfortably and yes, luxuriously paired to my horses back no matter what comes our way. I even ride on the mountain trails in this dressage saddle because no other saddle keeps me as comfortable and secure, and is as comfortable for my horse as well.
