Purchase: Tried this saddle from the local saddlery on loan for a few days. Asking price (new) $1700 CDN. Similar saddle (no flex tree?) $895 US in Texas.
Likes: VERY comfortable saddle, cutaway skirts and lots of swing to the fenders. Leather is ridiculously soft, no "break-in" time required. Comfortable rough seat. Understated but "pretty" floral patter that isn't overdone. Fit my withery, big-shouldered 16h horses very well. Very light, maybe 26 lbs?
Dislikes: At $1700 it was more expensive than I was wanting to pay, and the seat of the one I tried was too big.
Quality: The leather is soft but it is thin and has a synthetic backing -- this probably helps keep it light, but I don't know if that makes it any more or less durable? The tree was a flex tree made of stiff neoprene, probably very similar to Tex-Tan. The long trail ties also had clips on the saddle, which rattled a lot but would be convenient for trail riding. Seat is on the flattish side, rather than deep, so it fits generously for the size. Moderately narrow twist.
Summary: Surprisingly nice saddle, would make a good saddle for trail riding, and really did fit the horses better than others have. Strange that I can hardly find any others -- its as if Saddlesmith/Abetta never made any more? There is a silver piece on the seat that says "Designed by Saddlesmith USA" but that's the ONLY marking on it (no model no., nothing).
