Red Fox Royal
Close Contact Saddles

Manufacturer: Prestige
Model: Red Fox Royal
Category: Close Contact Saddles

Purchase: I purchased the Prestige Red Fox Royal from my local tack store for $1900. The saddle was brand new. A little pricey but once I rode in this saddle I fell in love. The Red Fox Royal is one of the cheaper and more affordable Prestige models.

Likes: I love this saddle! I have rode in Antares, Devoucouxs, Countys, Bevals, and Amerigos and I will say that this Prestige is by far the most comfortable! I also feel very close to my horse. My horse isn't the smoothest to ride but this saddle really helps makes his gaits easier to ride. I don't know how it does it. My trainer always used to tell me that I was fighting the tack in my past saddles but she says my posture has improved tremendously in this Prestige and I go way better with my horses flow. My horse is also a lazy guy and this saddle really helps me feel like I can put my leg on him correctly and he has been much more forward. I can tell he likes this saddle and it fits him well. He is a medium framed warmblood with withers but also has a flat back. It took many tries with new saddles to find one that fit him.

Dislikes: Nothing so far! I really love everything about this saddle. I was a bit skeptical of Prestige’s leather at first because I read on forum boards that their leather is too delicate and wears through quickly. I haven't had any problems yet and my saddle doesn't have any rubs on the flaps from the leathers yet, but I use very soft leathers. My saddle has the printed leather which I think will hold up longer than the double calfskin saddles. I prefer the look of the smooth double calfskin, but the printed leather is surprisingly very comfortable.

Quality: The leather on this saddle is like a dream. I got a week trial with this saddle and the leather felt broken in on my first ride, even though the saddle still had wax on it. It didn't squeak at all too, which is great because I hate new saddle leather for that reason. I love how you can have the Prestige saddle trees adjusted if your horse changes shape, which is typical for every horse to do overtime. I really feel like this saddle will last me a long time.

Summary: Definitely try a Prestige if you are in the market for a new saddle! They have a lot of models to try so you are bound to find the right one for you and your horse. The Red Fox Royal is the cheaper model and is extremely comfortable, so I can only imagine how comfortable the more expensive models are.
