Purchase: I needed as saddle pretty quickly since I sold the saddle I ride it. I thought about used but had been looking at the Corriente for some time and read all the reviews. I spend some time talking to the people at Corriente and felt comfortable with them and their guarantee. I figured that if the saddle was junk, I could return it. Truthfully what could expect to get for $700 delivered - with upgrades?
Likes: When the saddle arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the leather and the workmanship. A rawhide wrapped tree with some nice tooling in a 17" seat and natural rawhide trim on the candle and horn.
I took the saddle out of the box and put it right on my horse - seemed to be a good fit so I cinched up and took it for a spin - felt good too. That was on a Tuesday. On Thursday, after putting a lot of oil on the saddle, I took it out for a "speed ride" on the Clemson trails for about 4 1/2 hours. My only complaint was that a lot of trotting and galloping in a new roughout saddle caused a lot of friction burns on the inside of my knees. That had nothing to do with the makeup of the saddle - just me.
I can see using this saddle for many years to come.
Dislikes: Some of the tooling on the swell in front of the horse was not quite centered. VERY minor and unless you were really looking for it, you may not ever notice. The only other thing was that the breast collar "d"s were tucked under the dropped plate rigging and it made it difficult to hook up the breast collar once you lock down the cinch. Easy enough to have another set installed a little higher.
Quality: Overall, the leather was of good quality, the workmanship was very good, and after ~20+ hours of use, it is breaking in nicely.
Summary: I would recommend this saddle to anyone regardless of the price range you are looking at.
