Purchase: I bought these in August from Valley Vet online for $78.95. I bought them for my 3 year old filly to protect and support her legs while in training. Professional's Choice is a well known and widely used brand and I felt it was a name I could trust.
Likes: I really like the fit of the SMB Elite boots. They are very contoured and close fitting offering good protection all around the leg without interfering with movement and keeping a nice clean look. The material that the boots are made of seems very durable and has been able to withstand many knocks during trail riding and reining training. They are easy to clean and come out spotless with just a rinse in plain water. I also like that they are available in a wide variety of colors which is always a fun point for many horse people.
Dislikes: While the SMB material seems very good, the velcro has been a big letdown. After only 3 months the velcro on the suspensory strap let go on one boot and threatened to let go on the other. I had the velcro reattached, but at the time I remember saying "if something gives out now, it sure won't be the stitching". And I was right. Two weeks later, the velcro itself developed a hole. The issue I'm having is that as my horse is learning turnarounds, she's hitting the velcro strap and it simply can't take that kind of abuse. The rest of the boot is in great shape so I'll just look at getting the velcro replaced which isn't a huge deal but still a little disappointing for such expensive boots.
Quality: The base material seems excellent and seems to give good support and protection while being easy to clean. I however found that the velcro straps have poor stitching and are not adequately protected from wear.
Summary: Overall I really like the look and fit of the SMB Elites and would not be above trying them again. They have offered great protection for my horse and I'd much rather deal with a hole in the velcro than a hole in my horse.
