Purchase: I bought this saddle in early summer of 2008 for my then 8 year old Friesian mare. At age 5 she was fitted in a medium tree County that was great at the time, however with training and the last growth spurt she quickly outgrew beyond a standard wide tree in a year. The search for a new saddle was painful with many trials and errors. I even had one saddle that was supposed to be a flexible tree that was made especially for Friesians, with such an ill fit like stirrups falling off while riding and sliding forward 4 inches even after several returns to get it corrected. It was only by chance that I tried the Borne saddle. The master saddler and owner just happened to be in town and somehow I was around when I heard they were coming. I think I only paid 3200 or 3400 for it which was a steal compared to what I already paid for others and was willing to pay for custom to get it right.
Likes: Wonderful customer service and follow up. Fits my horse and does not seem to restrict her movements. Her dressage scores improved, her back is better, and the design is great for any wide back horse. The Master Saddler was the one actually doing the measurement and tracing. The leather is fantastic and high quality. They also fitted it to fit my short legs too.
Dislikes: It does have a wider twist. For those who like a narrow twist, it takes a little to get used to. However for any wide back horse you need a wider twist to prevent back pinching, so it is any easy adjustment for my horses sake. Since I have always ridden in a narrow twist saddle, it is probably only a medium twist in reality.
May not fit others horses back as well, but they have a full line of saddles for most back types and if not I am sure they will work with you.
Quality: Great quality and construction. Made in the UK and has maintained very well for 2 years, with it being used 4-6 times a week. At the time, they used brass fittings and I had special request for silver color and they were very accommodating about it.
Summary: Basically I was happy that someone had a saddle that would fit my horse with the high quality and standards I was looking for. The price was a bonus.
