Purchase: Bough from Schneiders in 2007, paid about $109, online. The blankets are also available in their catalog, but ordering online is so easy. We bought two of them at the time.
Likes: We LOVE the belly band feature since we now live where we get snow and the winters can be much more harsh. They stay put really well, and even with going on their third winter here, are in excellent condition. Our horses stay warm and dry, and the custom fit available at the neck what with the velcro adjustments makes a huge difference. We have Arabians, and the drop of these blankets is perfect for them. Most blankets have a drop so deep that I almost have to stitch them up but these are perfect. With legs straps detachable, and two strap chest closures, so far we have not yet found a horse who did not fit into one or the other, since we have two sizes. The quality is top, and since we have four SSTack blankets now, and all are top quality, we just ordered another of these for our growing gelding.
Dislikes: The only thing I DON'T like is that on the website there is no indication as to whether or not each blanket has a closed front, which I HATE, and I accidentally got one and ended up reselling it. Also, I can't get enough information on how the neck covers attach to know whether or not to get one of those as well. I would expect them to be well made, but I don't like having to ship things back. I would also love to see a small velcro spot on them so that in the stormy weather, we could quickly fasten the front then secure everything else - sometimes the horses are hot in the weather, and dash out from under the blanket before I get a chance to buckle the front. There really is nothing about the blanket itself that I don't like.
Quality: TOP QUALITY construction all the way. The stitching is solid, and the construction keeps the blanket from developing lumps or think spots as some blankets do. The material is sturdy, and all hardware is substantial. The lining is smooth and seems to be very comfortable for our horses. Even our 24 year old stallion comes trotting up to get his blanket on with these.
Summary: I love these blankets, and just ordered another. As long as they are well priced and made as they are, I will continue to use them. They are less than HALF the price of well made competing blankets, and with 9 horses, we have to make good decision. I would recommend them to anyone.
