Purchase: I saw a listing for a similar saddle on Ebay and contacted the maker to see if I could get a saddle made to my specifications. Jerry was most accommodating. He had me email him a template of my horse's withers, took my specs and built me a saddle to fit my horse for $750. This is the first saddle I've had to fit my horse. I compete in mounted shooting, and this saddle really allows me to ride hard but secure while focusing on shooting, too. I love this saddle.
Likes: This saddle fits my horse. It is very good quality leather considering the economical price. Very solid stirrup fenders! Nice tooling. Comfortable seat. Has stood up to daily wear and tear for the past year and still looks great and rides like brand new.
Dislikes: The quality of the leather cinch strap could have been better. Other than that, this saddle has been a worthy investment.
Quality: This saddle is constructed of thick heavy leather with basket weave tooling on the corners. Everything is snug and tight and balanced. The stirrups are positioned in such a way that you can really hold a deep seat in sharp fast turns. I've ridden some cheaper saddles where the stirrups hang so that you are thrown forward and out of balance when riding. Not so with this saddle. It has a nice deep seat that is very secure in combination with the bear trap frame. This saddle can make a decent rider of even a beginner due to its design and seat.
Summary: I love this saddle. For the money, it can't be beat. Working with Jerry was very easy. I've recommended him and this type of saddle to several of my shooting friends, and I know a couple have purchased and are just as happy as I am. If you are looking for a brand new quality saddle at an affordable price, you can't go wrong here.
