Purchase: I bought it new on ebay for $960.00.
Likes: I bought this saddle to use on my lesson horse because the old crosby lesson saddles were way too hard and leather slippery and so uncomfortable...all of you new riders know exactly what I am talking about. This saddle was a huge improvement in comparison to old, worn out lesson saddles and so comfortable and fit like a glove. It has changeable gullet system so if you need a wider or narrower tree it's only about twenty bucks for a new gullet bar.
Dislikes: It never really breaks in and don't care much for the way it put my leg in the right place only at the walk but when trotting, 2-point, due to the bulk under my leg and the fact that it never broke in, my knees would stick out too far and send my legs back during trot, 2 point at the trot. Once it breaks in I am sure it will improve but not waiting any longer to find out, it's been 8 months now and I am moving up to a used high-end saddle that puts my leg in correct position and remains quiet throughout my riding. Oh, billet straps way short, have to use a longer girth with it.
Quality: Well constructed, scuff marks come out easy with leather conditioner worked-in. Always looks brand new. Even sweat mark on panel disappeared without a trace once it dried. This saddle will last a long time because it is buffalo base with calf knee pads.
Summary: Great saddle and great buy as a first saddle for a rider who doesn't own their own horse and needs a well-made saddle that will last a long time that is comfortable. Many other students I ride with love theirs, my leg position is a personal issue I think. Once you buy your own horse, I would go custom saddle all the way. This saddle fits many horses including TB, Appendix, Holsteiner, Qtr.horse I used on all of these.
