Jumping Saddles

Manufacturer: Verhan
Model: Todd Minikus
Category: Jumping Saddles

Purchase: Purchased this saddle through Equi Products, Calgary AB, with the help of the saddle fitter. Paid $3995 canadian, reluctantly, but couldn't find anything else to fit my 17.2hh wb with very high, long withers.

Likes: The quality is wonderful! Soft luxurious leather, super grip for the rider. Wide soft panels for the horse! AND it fits my warmblood gelding with the high, LONG withers. Nothing else even came close to fitting. I'd already been through several 'deals' on used saddles that I thought fit, but didn't, as they were too short through the pommel. Always bridging and pivoting on the tree points. Saddle fitter showed me that if you slide the saddle back and the pommel drops, it means the pommel is too short and the saddle was just 'propped' on the tree points. My position on the flat and over fences is SO secure, feel like I am one with the horse. I am very picky about how the saddle affects my position. I tried the Amerigo saddles, fit my horse, but I couldn't find my balance in it. Felt like I had to climb my horse's neck to do 2 point. I ordered the darker brown (reddish brown) and after 1 1/2 yrs of use, it still looks new. When I go shopping for my next horse, it must fit this saddle.

Dislikes: I choked a bit on the price, but it was the only saddle I could find that fit my horse. To ride or not to ride?... Had to pay out the $$$.

Quality: Beautiful supple leather, very 'sexy' leather. If you go to tack stores to feel the saddles, you know what I'm talking about! The buffalo leather feels broken in from the first ride. The saddle has a wide channel and wide soft panels, excellent support on the horse's back. The saddle fitter was very impressed with the owners of the company, excellent communication. Also, the Verhan saddles have a tree that can be adjusted by a saddle fitter.

Summary: Well worth the money.
