Purchase: I purchased this blanket from State line Tack for $89.99 when it was on clearance (this blanket is normally much more expensive!). My aging gelding was having trouble coping with the Minnesota winters, and needed some help in the heat department. I purchased this blanket in Fall of 2009.
Likes: I had never blanketed any of my horses prior to purchasing this one, so I do not have anything to compare it to. I will do my best to explain what I like about it though.
It is very well made and looks great on my big gelding. It fits nicely on him, and keeps him cozy when the weather is not. This blanket has large shoulder gussets, a tail flap (stays over tail without any straps or the like), and heavy duty hardware that doesn't come undone. There also is a velcro closure on the front under the buckles, which makes fastening and adjusting the blanket easy. My gelding has rolled, ran, bucked, and all other sorts of things with it on and it has held up.
Dislikes: The lining in the shoulder is rubbing and tearing a bit--perhaps it is just my gelding's conformation. I've had to patch an area of the lining to keep it from tearing too much. This blanket is double lined in the shoulder, but my guy managed to get through both layers.
Quality: The 1200 denier outer is ripstop and shows no signs of wear, even with a nippy pasture mate. After 2 months of use, the blanket has not frayed or ripped at all--still looks brand new. Like I mentioned earlier, the lining isn't the best with my gelding but this could be due to his conformation.
Summary: This is a great blanket, but as I stated earlier, I do not have anything else to compare it to. All in all, I would buy Big D blankets again, but I honestly cannot imagine this blanket being destroyed--it is really nice!
