Purchase: These can be bought on ebay for anywhere from 99 cents to a few hundred dollars plus shipping. I had to see what these bargains were really like so I ordered one that looked similar to an Western style Australian saddle with a horn.
Likes: Nothing! An accident waiting to happen.
Dislikes: It had the smallest dee ring and a leather strap that was supposed to be the girth. It would never tighten on the horse. The leather on all the saddle looked like cardboard. It was very narrow and looked like it would only fit a starving horse with no meat on its withers. I sent it back and luckily got my money back as it would never fit my horse.
Quality: I am sure this saddle from its looks and construction would never have held up under any sort of riding. I have since found out from research that these import saddles, be they western, English or Aussie saddles are made cheaply using buffalo leather tanned with urine, which besides the smell, does not last long. Since the rider's life depends on a well built saddle, having one fall apart on you as you ride creates a dangerous situation for both rider and horse.
Summary: I do not know who submitted the review on another Indian made saddle but with the wording and syntax I guess it was either the maker or seller of the imported saddle, meaning not a real American horseman who has ridden and used saddles and knows what goes into a really good product.
A good saddle is like an insurance policy. Having one poorly made is a risk that could involve injury to both rider and horse.
I really wonder that anyone buys cheaply made imports on ebay or anywhere else. Good saddles require close to a $1000 investment, just for quality built safety and security.
I know not everyone can afford a good saddle but buying a good used older saddle, time payments or trading for a well built saddle that will not fall apart as you ride is certainly a better, even cheaper investment than paying for hospital or vet bills resulting from riding such crap.
