Purchase: I bought this helmet for $25 at a non-chain tack shop that was so crammed with stuff that it reminded me of an overgrown child's bedroom.
I needed my own riding hat for weekly lessons, and Troxel was recommended to me by two other riders at the barn, so I went for the most affordable model.
Likes: 1)It's very affordable, probably about the cheapest approved helmet on the market. 2)It IS quite comfortable on the head, I forget I'm wearing it during rides. 3)The removable liner is convenient, as it does get smelly over time and it's nice to be able to wash it.
Dislikes: 1)It's really huge on the head (mushroom is an understatement). 2)looks kiddy-bicycle-helmet-like. 3)The retention strap has, after less than a year, gotten to the point where it loosens itself during use, and must be readjusted before/after each ride, which could be a safety issue. 4)The 'Y' parts of the strap, that run behind and in front of the ear, are too close together; they cut into the bases of my ears slightly. 5)It COULD just be me, but I find myself having to add more and more padding to get it halfway snug; I've even had to take padding from a bicycle helmet to get it tight enough to not rock around when I shake my head. And yes, it was too big for me to begin with, but it almost seems like it's getting looser? I think the foam may be shrinking, or the padding is constricting, which is very disappointing.
Quality: It hasn't exactly exploded, but it seems to be wearing down after less than a year. The retention strap (and maybe the foam/padding) is low quality, in a very irritating way.
Summary: If you are looks-conscious, forget it. Other than that, it's a pain to have to constantly be adjusting things, but I suppose it would be a good helmet for a beginner.
