Purchase: I found Matt Marlows Custom Made Saddle Company online when I was looking for a saddler to repair my old saddle. He did a really good job and I went back to him when I needed to have a new saddle made.
Matt came out, (2 hour drive) measured and photographed Misty and then made the saddle to my exact spec. The price was a very reasonable £699.
Likes: The saddle is a gorgeous soft English leather. It has a nice deep seat and given my youngsters habit of rearing when startled this is very comforting. The flaps have knee and thigh rolls underneath, and knee and thigh pads on the top. The skirts are padded so there is no pressure to the thigh from the stirrup buckles. It was also made a little wider across the twist, a much needed comfort requirement in my advancing years!
I'm guessing that my horse also likes her new saddle as she is better behaved when I fasten up the girth.
Dislikes: Unlike previous saddles, so far I have found nothing I dislike about this saddle, but it has been made to my exact requirements so I suppose this is not much of a surprise.
Quality: It is good quality English leather with wool flocked panels and a spring tree. The girth straps are long and strong, and I'm sure will live longer than me. The stitching is excellent and the fit is exactly as it should be.
Summary: To sum up this is an excellent saddle which has been made with obvious care. Should I need another saddle I would return this company, and if asked I would certainly recommend them.
