Purchase: I bought a used Carlyle Close Contact 17.5 med. tree saddle. Paid $235 with a new stubben girth.
Likes: I am impressed with the saddle. It isn't top of the line like the $2000+ saddles, but it isn't a cheap one. It is balanced, has nice supple leather, great color and fits my 16.1 quarter horse. The seat has amble cushion. For a used saddle-it looks like a new saddle (it wears well- no cracks,rips, color isn't wearing at all- construction seems to be good). For the money and starting out in English - It was a great buy. The seat and tree size are true.
Dislikes: Nothing so far.
Quality: Good construction, true size on the seat and tree, the leather is soft with no discoloration, it has billet protectors, it has foam flocking with no break down. It tells me alot to see the saddle in almost new condition being a used saddle. The leather is not flimsy or stiff.
Summary: If you are starting out in English - you may want to consider a Carlyle - well balanced, good construction. Overall I am pleased with the saddle. I didn't break the bank and will show in the saddle. If I really like English I will consider a more expensive one.
