Purchase: I wondered if Silver Mesa Saddle line would continue on after Denney Sergeants closed and yes, they have. The actual maker of the Silver Mesas has a little place in Tioga, TX on Hwy 377 not far from where Sergeants was. It is called Elite Saddles and they are making saddles starting from about $1100/1200, and up to the price and kind used by the top pros. I wanted a show bridle and had my own conchos. I paid $65 for browband headstall with basket weave tooling, something that would have cost twice that any where else. It was finished within one week and included the nicest leather rosettes for the conchos, which was totally unexpected.
Likes: The eye appeal that goes with the former Silver Mesa name, is now found in the Elite Saddles. I was amazed how much time the son took to show us the saddles and explain why they use a certain kind of tree or leather. While there, my husband ordered a belt, which was done within a couple hours (we did not expect them to do the belt that day, but I guess since we had traveled 2 hours, they were nice enough to do it that day.) The belt was done with basket weave tooling, stitching and dyed edges, ready for any buckle!)
Dislikes: There is nothing that I do not like.
Quality: Great construction, top quality leather that will last. I enjoyed talking with both Raimundo Blancos, senior (the actual saddle maker) and his son. I am saving my $ to get a saddle from them soon!
Summary: I feel that Raimundo Blanco of Elite Saddlery will offer clients the same quality and service they had under the Sergeants name at much better prices. After all, you are getting the REAL McCoy! They also do saddle repair and I left them my saddle from another maker to have some things corrected on it.
