Grooming Equipment

Manufacturer: SoloComb Ltd
Model: SoloComb
Category: Grooming Equipment

Purchase: I bought SoloComb, because I acquired a horse that doesn't like the mane pulled. I purchased the SoloComb from Boot Hill in Valdosta, Ga for $35.95. SoloComb is by SoloComb LTd, 3 West Grange, East Hagbourne, Didcot, Oxon OX11

Likes: This is a unique product, very helpful in getting the mane pulled, without upsetting thin-skinned horses, and without making a thin-maned horse bald or nearly so. I love mine, and so do my horses. Pros: works quickly, easily, and does not annoy or cause pain to any of my horses. I have used it on 5 horses. One horse, in particular, is very difficult to pull the mane in a conventional fashion, but very easy with SoloComb. I feel the item does an excellent job, when used as directed. People who complain, need to read the directions. I do have one horse with a very thin mane, so conventional pulling caused the mane to be too thin, and I was able to use SoloComb to shorten the mane, and not have it substantially thinner. However, if used carefully, as directed, I was able to use SoloComb on those horses with a very thick mane, and still achieve good results, with the mane being both thinner, and evenly shortened. I repeat, that you should READ the directions and follow them, in order to get the mane both thinned and shortened as needed. Again, if you follow the directions, I can't understand anyone saying you can't get the mane nice and even and looking good with this product. I would guess that anyone complaining that this product won't thin the mane, or get the mane even, either has not read the directions, or hasn't followed them very well. I have even bought this product as a gift for 2 other friends, whose horses gave them problems with mane pulling. Horses my friends and I have used this product on: 8 Quarter Horses, one with a very thick mane, the other with a very thin mane that didn't need any thinning, just shortening 1 Morgan mare, with extremely thick mane (not a show horse, so shorter and thinner mane, in very hot climate, was desired) 2 Thoroughbreds, very thin-skinned I also like that it comes with a 12 month guarantee, and you can buy replacement blades. I have had the product about 2 years, and haven't needed new blades yet. I have not used the SoloComb on tails.

Dislikes: Mostly, I don't like the price. I find the price to be a bit high, given that conventional pulling works quite well for most horses. Would be nice if you could clip more hairs at once. This would shorten the duration of time needed to shorten and thin the mane, but this is only a very minor complaint.

Quality: I think the construction and quality of the unit are just fine. I have used this unit now for almost 2 years, and have had no problems with it, including when I have dropped the SoloComb on pavement.

Summary: To summarize: Excellent product, requires that someone actually read and follow the directions. Very useful, especially for those thin-skinned or thin-maned horses, but still works for thick manes. Gets the job done, quickly and easily. Has a one year guarantee. I would buy it again, and have done so as a gift for 2 different friends.
