Purchase: I received these stirrups last year for my birthday and I know they were not cheap($160+)! Despite the price tag, these stirrups are wonderful! Shortly after I started riding in them, they started squeaking! I contacted Royal Rider and they told me to bring them into the tack shop where they were originally purchased and I could pick up a new pair at no charge! My new stirrups don't squeak at all!
Likes: Because of a knee injury, I can't stretch my heel down as low as I'd like to on that side. The Royal Rider stirrups not only helped my heels sink down but also eliminated a lot of the pain I experienced with regular Fillis stirrups. The cheese grater pads and wider footbed is also great. These stirrups are really easy to pick up when dropped(like for no stirrup work) and I rarely lose these stirrups when I'm flatting or jumping.
Dislikes: Because I decided to put the cheese grater pads on the stirrups vs the regular pads, I do have to be careful when running up the stirrups; otherwise, the leathers will get slightly scratched. Contrary to common belief, the cheese grater pads that came with the stirrups do not affect the sole of your boots at all. These stirrups also do not encourage the leg to "swing" even though they are flexible; if your leg is solid and secure to begin with, these stirrups won't magically make your leg unstable.
Quality: Aside from the manufacturing issue with my first pair, which Royal Rider graciously and quickly replaced, these stirrups are extremely comfortable and durable.
Summary: These stirrups have done wonders for my knee and I would recommend them to anyone with knee or ankle issues, as well as anyone needing a stirrup that isn't so rigid and tough on joints. Although they are pricey, these stirrups are worth it and Royal Rider has exceptional customer service.
