All Purpose Saddles
Manufacturer: Duett
Model: Rondo
Category: All Purpose Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this Duett from and individual on Ebay for $250.00! What a steal. It was virtually new, and I think the pictures did not show the saddle well. It is Black with Black suede puffy knee pads, size 34 tee, 18 inch. I think that the suede put people off, but having fox hunted for years, I appreciate the grip that the suede provides.
Likes: I purchased this for my 16.2 hand Belgian Draft cross, who normally wears a medium wide tree saddle. He is very easy to fit. I almost though this was going to be too wide, but it's perfect. I spend up to 6 hours a day trail riding and this saddle is the most comfortable thing I've ever ridden in. The twist and seat are very comfortable. I like AP saddles, but usually go up a seat size to make sure that my knees fall in the right place on the saddle flap. I heard that these ride small, and the Duett website does say to go up a half-inch from what your usually ride it. They are a medium-deep seat in my opinion. don't forget, that the deeper the seat, the larger the seat size that you will want. I am 5'2, 120 lbs and 30 inch inseam, and I do not feel lost in it. I can shorten my stirrups to jump without my knees jutting out over the flaps. The knee rolls are perfect for cross country riding, and jumping. My Husband who is 6'2 can also ride in this saddle, which is the advantage to getting a larger size. The leather is superior, it will accept neatsfoot oil, and is soft and supple. It really has not needed only the initial very light oiling. It will not spot in the rain. The panels are not "finished", so the color is not going to rub off under your stirrup leathers. Oh, and the suede is very durable. I think that is a special order feature, and I love the suede. All this and wool flocked panels that are great for your horse's back too! These saddles are reasonably priced new, and well worth it. I just had a lucky day on Ebay to get mine for such a great price. It is also just a great looking saddle.
Dislikes: There is positively nothing to dislike about this saddle.
Quality: Besides the great leather quality, and medium to extra wide tree size options, the construction is lovely. I am very picky about quality and style, and this is as well made as several high end saddles that I've owned.
Summary: For the value, you can not beat it. For the fit, your horse deserves it, and for the comfort it will give you- do not hesitate to try one!
