Purchase: I purchased my first Equine Athletics brand coat at the Equine Affaire Expo in Ohio. All Equine Athletic hunt coats stretch and have a stretch mesh lining, these features are only available with EA brand coats. The wool coats run from $250.00 to $300.00, and the Polyester are $115.00 to $130.00. The polyester coats are machine washable, but both fabrics have considerable stretch, are lightweight and comfortable. Equine Athletics also makes kids coats, dressage coats and men’s coats.
Likes: What impressed me the most was the amount of stretch in the coat. The coats are very lightweight, and I stayed a lot cooler even though the coat was a polyester blend. Having it be machine washable was a big bonus as well. The coat only needs to be dry-cleaned after every four machine-washes. Equine Athletics coats are also longer than most other brands, so it fit better and was more flattering. The coats are high quality, and have two different materials to choose from.
Dislikes: The only thing I didn't like about this brand was that the wool coats could run up to $300.00. Of course this depends on the tack shop you purchase it from. Everything else is great!
Quality: The coats are well sewn. The Polyester coats are 97% Polyester and 3% Spandex, and the Wool coats are 54% Wool, 42% Polyester and 4% Spandex. Both types are high quality, but the wool is more expensive. Both types are also water resistant, instead of absorbing water, when they get wet the water just rolls off.
Summary: The bottom line is Equine Athletics brand coats are sturdy, stretchy and cooler than other brand coats and they also come at a fair price. These coats are fairly new, but they rank equal to an Elite or Grand Prix brand coat.
