Purchase: I purchased the Reinsman saddle pad as a last resort. My three year old is very hard to fit with a saddle. This year she decided that the saddle I bought her last year no longer feels good! Though I was not keen on buying another saddle for her, I decided I would have to. the problem was that I could not find one to fit any better than what I had! My tack shop recommended the Reinsman Sway Back pad. I paid 100.00 for the pad and it was the BEST 100.00 I have spent in a while.
Likes: My filly is bothered when she has pressure around the area of her shoulders. She becomes very reactive, tossing her head and letting us know that she is ouchy. When she hurts she is tentative in her forward motion. Typically, as we put consecutive rides on her she gets more sore with each ride, and we have to lay her up. We rode her with the Reinsman Sway Back pad today and she was the "star" of the class. She was comfortable, relaxed and very attentive - well, for a three year old!
Dislikes: There is NOTHING that I don't like about this pad.
Quality: I have tried other foam core pads on this horse, including a very expensive pad with "memory foam" in the core. None work as well as the Reinsman! The foam is thick enough to really give the horse relief in the back area. The more important thing, for my horse, is that the foam thickness decreases toward the front and the back. This allows the shoulders to move freely with no pressure at all. It is great! My filly moves naturally, with relaxed head position for the first time.
Summary: My filly has super temperament and is very willing. When she is reactive, something is wrong. She has been very uncomfortable under saddle for a while. She gets more sore as the days go on, until you have to lay her up for a few days. With the Reinsman pad I have been able to use the saddle that I originally bought for her, and she is perfectly comfortable. We can go about our training with her focusing on what is being asked of her, instead of how she feels! We can ride consecutive days with no pain or soreness!
