Purchase: Purchased saddle on Ebay. Had a well used one prior to this and the seat was split, but only paid $100 for it on Ebay. Sold that one for $140 and bought a better condition one for $180 on Ebay.
Likes: The saddle is wonderful. First, it is an older model crosby, which is great quality.
Dislikes: That I don't have more of them. There is nothing bad to say about this unit, except that when I purchased it they removed the saddle flap billets (the small third billet for some dressage girths) - but I really don't care. The saddle is perfect. The black dye was a bit faded in some areas, which is to be expected considering how old the saddle is. However, I purchased some leather dye to touch up the worn areas and it literally looks brand new (just make sure to rub well with towel a few times b/c some of the dye will rub off!)
Quality: The seat is deep and comfortable. There are no knee blocks, which I like because the saddle allows you to ride without interference. Close contact ride with the horse. Leather is beautiful and well kept. Billets in great condition, leather is butter soft and no tears. I have owned many crosby saddles and I know that, especially with the older ones they can frequently split along the seat seam. However, while I realize that there are different philosophies about how to maintain leather, I have kept all of my saddles (some more than 20 y/o) very well oiled/conditioned on the seat and there is almost no evidence of wear and no splitting on the seat.
Summary: Highly recommend this saddle to the dressage enthusiast. Fits horse (TB gelding about 16hh) well, and like many of the older crosbys it fits a good range of horses well.
