McAlister
200D Stable Blanket
Horsewear
Manufacturer: McAlister
Model: 200D Stable Blanket
Category: Horsewear
Purchase: I bought it from Horseloverz.com for $30 + shipping to use on my clipped appendix mare for in the stable and outside underneath a turnout blanket. Have had it since the beginning of the season, started using in late October 2009 (now February 2010).
Likes: Has not been ripped or broken in any way and my mare is very hard on blankets. The clasp on one of the leg straps broke but I replaced it with another. The leg straps on this blanket have lasted longer than those on the Schneider's Teckno-Fleece Euro Turnout and the McAlister 600D Mediumweight Turnout, though. Off the top of my head I cannot remember whether or not they are replaceable. I know the ones on the McAlister turnout are not.
I really like the variety of color choices that McAlister offers. The one I have is rosewood, very nice looking.
The blanket does not fall to one side unless the McAlister turnout is on top of it and since that blanket slides to the left it takes the stable blanket with it.
The price is very nice :)
Dislikes: My complaint about this blanket is very significant. It is NOT durable at all. My horse has been wearing it for maybe a total of 3 months now at the most--not even a full season--and it has already warped and stretched around the neck so that the opening is MUCH too big and rubs her chest. It has also stretched in the back bottom corners where the leg straps attach under the tail. I think it has just stretched at pressure points, essentially. It now fits so badly that I have to find the money to get a new one ASAP because it rubs so badly.
The straps for the front closure are very pathetic nylon and are already doing the thing where the holes merge together and it just becomes a stringy mess.
The inside of the blanket is made of a cotton that tends to bunch and billow in a very unattractive and bizarre-looking manner. I have not found it to be a problem with rubbing or anything (surprisingly) but it tends to poof out at the hind end.
Quality: See above.
Summary: Even though it is very cheap, I would not recommend this blanket. It is not worth it. If it stretches so much that it is unusable within 3 months, that is a serious problem.
