Purchase: I purchased this saddle pad on ebay-Green River Tack- for approximately $62.00 plus shipping. I wanted a good, solid pad that was contoured to my horse's back and had extra support under the saddle bar area (my boy is wide.) I also wanted a pad that would help keep the saddle from slipping. And lastly, I could NOT afford a $150 saddle pad.
Likes: Everything! When it arrived in the mail, the padded areas seemed huge and very firm (I worried they were too hard). The wool is very cushy but flexible, and conformed to my horse's back on the first ride, fitting him like a glove. The padded bars really helped, and he had a perfect sweat pattern afterwards. During my long trail ride, he lowered his head in a much more "comfortable" attitude and had a lot more "go". No issues with saddle slippage.
Dislikes: Only one complaint; the color. It is advertised as black but it's a boring dark gray color. And it only comes in one color. But that's what a navajo blanket is for, right?
Quality: This product seems to be well-made. I suspect that it may struggle after 5 years or so, it's not made to last forever, but still a quality pad, and worth the cost.
Summary: This pad seems like it would really benefit most horses. My wide guy is happy as ever, and he FINALLY lacks dry spots from too much saddle pressure. This pad has been a lifesaver for us! I highly recommend it!
