Purchase: I bought this helmet on clearance from Dover Saddlery. I paid $139 for it. I had tried (and returned) the Troxel Duratec Legacy Gold helmet and decided to go with something closer to my show helmet (Charles Owen Hampton)that was an actual sized helmet instead of having an adjustable size.
Likes: I love how comfortable and light the Elite helmet is. I chose this helmet because I read reviews of people saying it wasn't hot for summer riding. It's winter now but I can definitely feel a breeze in this helmet! The padding is very soft and I feel that it's secure on my head. The low profile really is a low profile. I definitely don't have a mushroom head with this helmet.
Dislikes: The only thing I'm not wild about is the material that it's made out of. Our indoor arena is very dusty and the dust just sticks to it. The nice thing is that it wipes off easily and doesn't show scratches.
I would have liked this helmet even better if there was a black on black option instead of just a black/charcoal color.
Quality: The helmet is very light weight and well constructed. My old schooling helmet was an IRH Equilite helmet that stood up to considerable beating. This helmet looks like it will hold up very well. The outer material doesn't show scratches and the vents don't look like they would easily bend in.
There's a warning on the helmet that says not to pick it up by the visor because the visor is made to break off during a fall. Holding the visor makes this evident but so long as you don't pick it up by the visor you should be fine.
Summary: The bottom line is if you're looking for a durable, reliable schooling helmet that is extremely comfortable, cooling, and gives you that safe and secure feeling this is it. It's worth the extra money and it's quality speaks for its self. It has a truly low profile design. IRH is a company you can trust. They'll even replace your helmet (for a small fee) if you get into a fall. I'm now a firm IRH customer and will keep buying their products.
