Purchase: I bought this second-hand at my state breed association's summer picnic auction. I spotted this on the table, pegged it for a helmet bag (it would work for a youth helmet, I think, but not my size 8 noggin...) and, because I have an unhealthy need (according to my mother :) for bags, I bid on it- paid $10 or $15. Hoping for other colors in this style, I hunted them down online and found them a couple places for $20-$25 (pink blue and purple if you don't mind an open top design).
Likes: I LOVE this bag- I call it the Black Hole and use it primarily as a cosmetic/hair stuff/toiletry tote. It holds a full sized hairspray, gel and other hair fixatives, several Eagle Creek zip bags full of makeup, toothpaste & skin care stuff, a little tupperware full of bobby pins, clips and whatnot, full sized hairbrush, curling iron in a pinch, shampoo & conditioner in half size bottles, a first aid kit... and that's just the inside. I really like the drawstring top (kept the yuck out of my stuff, nice since we slept in the barn all year) and the flap that closes over it- the draw top opens up very wide and the pocket on the flap (marketed as a phone pocket) held my pocket plunder when I was in my show clothes. The pockets round the outside held water bottles, socks, rags and whatever else I happened to stuff in them. Full sized sprayers would be a stretch- the pockets aren't big enough for them, but grooming prep poured into those 8 oz drugstore sprayers fit perfectly (as in, when I dashed off to change clothes and my liniment sprayer was still hanging off my pocket).
Dislikes: The clip on the top flap did break but I think I'll be able to have it replaced easily.
Quality: It's a well made product, the interior is vinyl coated and the odd sticky product spillage wiped up easily. The rings and snaps on the shoulder strap are of very nice quality and held up well. The fabric and stitching was good, and there's a firm ring of some sort stitched into the top binding that helped hold its shape very well and didn't warp during a long, abusive show season.
Summary: Love it. Thinking seriously of buying another just so I have a spare. Or maybe, you know, for actual grooming equipment.
