Purchase: The first bottle I had of this was given to me when my trainer was irritated when she found that the bottle had leaked while she cleaned out her tack trunk. I figured I'd try it out since my pony's tail dried very easily at the time. The leaking was just a loose cap on the spray nozzle, easily solved. Later when I bought my second bottle it was about $20 for a 32oz spray bottle. Now that I'm hooked on it I'm considering buying the gallon jug which runs at about $60-70.
Likes: I'm a little bit tail obsessed and this product makes the job of keeping tail looking nice very easy. Smells fantastic, too. At first I only used it for tails and now I use it almost every time I groom from head to toe. It does a great job of sprucing up a flat, dull looking coat in the winter when baths are few and far between.
Most recently the big challenge I've had is that at our new barn my mare has open stall access and at the doors there's a large trench of mud from the overhang of the roof. Every time she walks in the last few inches to a foot of her tail gets dunked in the mud and has been horribly dried out to the point of breakage. I started using the Avocado Mist on it daily and that section of her tail looks and feels perfect again and seems to have regained nearly all of its original strength after only 2-3 applications.
Dislikes: There's not much that I dislike about this product. However, it's marketed as both a conditioner and detangler, but its really not my favorite in the detangling department. Maybe I've been a bit spoiled by Cowboy Magic's Detangler... so I tend to use the Avocado Mist once I've gotten everything detangled. Some reviews I've read have commented on it attracting dirt and I'd have to say I agree with that to a degree. Its no dirt magnet, but my horse's tail can get fairly gross after a while when a bath or even a good rinse isn't really an option.
Quality: As far as conditioning goes, its one of my favorite products. It smells absolutely wonderful. The spray bottle it comes in is really sturdy, enough so that I tend to keep and reuse them.
Summary: Even though it doesn't score well for its detangling abilities for me, its conditioning skills are good enough that I still give this product a full rating of 5. I really love how EQyss strives for healthier and more natural products and for the most part they do a fantastic job of it. Its because of the quality of this product that I will be buying more of their products in the future.
