Purchase: I bought it lightly used on eBay for $2000 5 months ago to fit a very hard to fit 17h TB mare. New these saddles are about $3500 with the skid row panels.
Likes: I love how grippy the elephant print leather is! My trainer sat in my saddle and couldn't believe how soft the seat was- and she has a Devoucoux Chilberta! The skid row panels make the saddle more adjustable to fit every type of horse- esp ones who have high withers with depressions on the sides but are not narrow fits. The leather is very soft and the panels have tons of wool padding- my horse moves awesome with this saddle! Even though the seat is not really deep, I have no problem staying with my horse even when she jumps the standards.
Dislikes: Because the leather is soft and grippy, I do not think that the seat will wear really well. So far so good, but I do not ride in full chaps or full seat unless I am at a show.
Because of the grippiness, sometimes the flaps tend to ride up and back on me while I am posting or doing gymnastics.
Quality: Excellent construction- even my vet was surprised at how straight the tree was! The leather is of very high quality and my friend who owns an Antares likes my XTR better!
Summary: An expensive saddle, but worth the price (probably why you never see them used!). My horse really loves the saddle too, and does not object to being tacked anymore!!!
Super comfortable seat- wouldn't believe it is a close contact!
