Purchase: I purchase my Easy Wormer through Equiteric (www.equiteric.com), a website that I have purchased a lot of my horse-related items through. At the time, I paid a little bit over $13 for this item, and considered it a last resort. The barn I board at worms on a schedule. The horse that I was riding at the time (and recently purchased), Tonka, is grossly afraid of having his upper lip and mouth handled. We figure he was twitched, and meanly. The first time we tried worming him, we ended up bruised, he had torn out one set of crossties, he was blindfolded, most of the wormer was sprayed around the aisleway, and he was shaking. So... I was willing to try ANYTHING to not repeat that scene.
Likes: I like this unit because you can slip the worming tube into the bit before you ever slip it into the horse's mouth. Also, the wormer is delivered to the back of the mouth, and therefore CANNOT be spit out. We didn't lose a single drop the first time we used it on Tonka. It takes a lot of the stress and heartache away from trying to coax a frightened horse to be wormed.
Dislikes: I'm a little bit leery of the plastic construction. I am very afraid that the horse will bite down on it while it is being inserted and break it, but it seems to be sturdy. Cleaning takes a little bit of work - I recommend getting a small wire cleaner to get it clean.
Quality: Even with my misgivings over the use of plain old plastic, the Easy Wormer hasn't given me any problems insofar as the sturdiness of construction. The headstall part is easily adjustable, and it is very easy to fit and use. So far, no complaints whatsoever.
Summary: Knowing then what I know now, I would have gladly paid over $50 for this tool. It has taken a lot of stress out of the necessary 'evil' of worming my horse. It's over and done in only a few minutes, without putting any strain on either one of us, and I'm assured that he got his full dosage of wormer.
