Purchase: I purchased this pad at performance tack.com on sale for about 180.00. I needed a pad that had good support and was thicker than a standard dressage pad.
Likes: I like the pad inserts- they're made of tempurpedic foam and are good shock absorbers. My saddle fits the horse well, but he has a sensitive back and this pad makes him more comfortable. He moves better with it. The pad is washable if you remove the inserts. The pad cover is made of cordura, which I wasn't sure at first if I would like it, but it turns out that its very sturdy and lays down nicely, cleans up well.
Dislikes: I like and dislike that fact that the pad is lined underneath with wool. It absorbs sweat and breathes, which is good, but it also rubs the hair off my horses back! bad. So I use a PRI thin cotton pad liner under the pad and that solved the issue with the hair, and it keeps the pad clean so I don't have to wash it as often. I just hose it off and let it drip dry- easy.
Quality: Cordura shell, 3/4" tempurpedic pad inserts, wool fabric lining underneath, billet strap keepers with velcro, and girth loops. Excellent construction, pad fits and is shaped so that it lays well- edges of pad don't stick out- lays down nicely.
Summary: Expensive pad but it makes my horse happy, so I will continue to use it. It makes a saddle that fits, fit even better. The foam compresses with body heat so that the pad is not thick and bulky, but it is an excellent shock absorber compared to a cotton quilt pad or quilted felt pad. It wont correct the fit of a poorly fitting saddle- it wasn't meant to do that, so don't buy one if that is your issue.
