Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this through a parelli instructor for a discounted price of $3200. Still a ton of money! I had purchased an extra wide dressage saddle for my fairly wide backed horse and noticed that he was developing some white hairs on his mid back area so I needed to look for a new saddle that fit him better.
Likes: I experimented with my current dressage saddle, another saddle and the Parelli Fluidity. I videotaped my horse w/t/c with all three saddles both on a lunge and while being ridden. Even while riding, I could tell my horse felt better in the Parelli. My video showed it as well. He was stepping underneath himself more and lowering his head, even during transitions which he usually tossed it up at least a little bit. Not only that, I love the saddle too. I could ride in this all day long and never have a sore butt. I liked my old dressage saddle and thought it was super comfortable too but this one feels so much better! It's easy to maintain a good leg posture. It does keep you an honest rider though since the seat doesn't lock you into a "perfect position" you have to make sure you are riding with the horse and staying supple in your body, which, ultimately, will keep you a better rider too.
Dislikes: The price is hard to swallow...that being said, I couldn't continue to ride my guy knowing that all the saddles I had on him weren't fitting him. And when I happened to try this one out and I could immediately see a difference for the better, I couldn't just ignore that.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality. I'm impressed with the supple leather, stitching and attention to detail.
Summary: I think the saddle is great. I didn't originally think such a wide tree could work for a horse, but with the theraflex pad and shimming the pad to make the fit makes sense. When you see how much a horse's back moves you wonder how any saddle can fit...so it sure made sense to me that making sure the saddle was wide enough and making the pad the flexible item so that it adapts to the horse and the saddle. And, to be in the most comfy saddle I've ever sat in isn't too bad either. I am very happy and would recommend that you try this saddle out if you are looking for a dressage saddle and have some extra money to spend.
